Informa Markets’ World of Concrete, the world’s largest trade show fostering the growing concrete and masonry construction industries, concluded its 49th edition held from 17 to 19 January 2023 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre (LVCC). With 48,009 registered professionals and over 120 countries in attendance, the event further solidifies itself as the critical meeting place for industry advancement.

\n\n

“The 2023 edition of World of Concrete far exceeded our expectations. The crowded show floor and packed educational sessions proves how essential meeting face to face is, that it remains important now more than ever to have a space to connect, to learn, to share across the concrete, masonry and construction industries as a vital contributor to our economy,” said Jackie James, vice president of World of Concrete. “In-person attendance is on its way back to pre-pandemic levels and the World of Concrete event leads global trends in construction.”

World of Concrete took more than 587,000 net sq ft of the convention centre, with both indoor and outdoor spaces full of product displays, demonstrations and competitions. Some highlights included unveiling of exciting new innovations, such as the first-ever mobile 3D robotic concrete printer and AI site map printer, top-of-the-line work trucks with electric batteries and aerodynamic improvements, and the widest range of original manufactured equipment from excavators to wireless concrete sensors, AI-based platforms and modern materials like the eco-driven autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC).

\n\n

Returning for the 18th consecutive year, the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) programme held its silent & live auctions, generating a record-breaking fund of more than US$2.1 million. Live auction and online donations fuelled the grant for the programme designed to prepare students for the concrete workforce early in their careers.

\n\n

The CIM programme provides students with a Bachelor of Science degree in Concrete Industry Management, a business programme specifically developed for the concrete industry. The proceeds from the 2023 CIM Auction will benefit the CIM National Steering Committee (NSC) and support the current CIM programme at Middle Tennessee State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Texas State University, California State University – Chico, South Dakota State University, the Executive MBA programme, as well as help fund scholarships. World of Concrete has also donated US$15,000 to the CIM education programme for the second consecutive year.

The 2023 edition of the Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 competition was held on Wednesday, 18 January. The winner, mason Michael Schlund, a Wisconsin native and his tender, Arron Kowalski, laid 759 bricks in one hour, and Mr Schlund was crowned ‘World’s Best Bricklayer’ leaving with a new Ford F250 4x4 Super Duty truck, an Essick Pro12 mixer, and more than US$15,000 in cash and prizes. Scott Tuttle, mason, and Brian Tuttle, tender, took second place with 716 bricks in one hour.

\n\n

The event’s second most coveted award, the Spec Mix Top Craftsman, went to mason Mario Hernandez and mason tender Gerson Lux, who built ‘the most sellable wall’.

\n\n

This year’s World of Concrete also offered more than 160 technical sessions, including hands-on training, safety expertise and business development. New additions to the 2023 education programme were eight concrete basics and leadership courses presented in Spanish, a revamped three-hour comprehensive concrete repair track, and new workshops focusing specifically on women in construction.

\n\n

World of Concrete will return in 2024 for its 50th anniversary, slated for 23 to 25 January (education: 22 to 25 January) in Las Vegas.

The World of Concrete exhibition has launched a new award programme to recognise and showcase the most innovative and forward-thinking equipment, materials, tools and services available in the concrete and masonry markets.

\n\n

The Innovative Product Awards powered by World of Concrete will feature many items on exhibit during the 2023 World of Concrete in Las Vegas, the US, taking place from 17 to 19 January. Voting will kick off on 4 January and close on 14 February. The winners will be announced on 21 February.

\n\n

Industry professionals will have the opportunity to vote for the most innovative item in nine categories. These product categories include: Business & Technology Software and Services; Concrete Construction Materials; Concrete Production & Delivery; Concrete Surfaces & Decorative Concrete Equipment & Materials; General Construction Tools & Equipment; Masonry Construction Materials; Precast & Block Production; Repair & Demolition Materials, Tools & Equipment; and Slab Tools, Equipment & Materials.

There will be two award categories:

Industry Choice Award will be presented to one winner in each programme category. Winners will be selected based on the most valid votes received through the IPA programme online awards platform during the voting period.

Expert’s Choice Award will be presented to one winner in each programme category. Winners will be selected by World of Concrete editors and industry experts.

The Innovative Product Awards powered by World of Concrete will be promoted pre-show, during the event, and post-show to the World of Concrete and WOC360 audiences. Coverage will include entry list promotions, voting promotions and winner promotions in newsletters, on social media and via the website.

World of Concrete, Informa Markets’ premiere exhibition serving the global concrete and masonry industries, will return from 17 to 19 January 2023 (education: 16 to 19 January) at the Las Vegas Convention Centre (LVCC) in Nevada, the US.

\n\n

The last edition of WOC, held in January 2022, drew close to 37,000 registered professionals. The event occupied 632,000 net sq ft (58,715 sq m) of exhibition space and hosted over 1,000 industry-leading suppliers, with just over 140 first-time exhibitors.

\n\n

The upcoming 2023 edition is expected to attract 1,000+ exhibitors, covering more than 600,000 net sq ft (55,742 sq m) of indoor and outdoor exhibit and event space, plus a world-class education programme.

\n\n

Work Truck Live!

\n\n

This is an all-new experiential initiative designed to showcase the innovations in a contractor’s most important asset, trucks. Located at the Central Hall, presented by Modern WorkTruck Solutions, the programme will highlight innovations in the design and configuration of work trucks and innovative accessories that will help contractors increase safety and productivity.

\n\n

WOC will also be debuting a Ride and Drive experience that provides an opportunity for visitors to test-drive select Class 1 – Class 7 vehicles. Approved drivers and passengers can experience the feel of the vehicle in a closed, short loop at the Central Hall. This programme will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday during the event.

\n\n

Education programme

\n\n

With more than 160 technical, business, and safety sessions developed to deliver valuable insights and practical applications, the 2023 WOC education programme offers something for every concrete/masonry professional. In addition to popular business and project management seminars, industry certifications, and interactive workshops, next year’s line-up will highlight a variety of new technical topics such as petrography, mass concrete, fibre reinforcing, reshoring, superflat floors, repair/restoration, 3D printing, defect litigation, and more.

\n\n

WOC will also introduce several new education alliances with industry associations, consulting firms, and media partners – Women’s Association of Concrete Professionals, The FORGE Foundation, National Association of Hispanic Contractors, Family Business Institute, AAC Worldwide, and Modern WorkTruck Solutions.

\n\n

Visitors will see many new additions to the 2023 education offerings, including eight concrete basics and leadership seminars presented in Spanish, a revamped 3-hour seminar concrete repair track, and new workshops focusing on women in construction, securing quality employees, concrete material testing, staining and sealing, and stamped concrete.

\n\n

Other highlights at the event include: CIM Silent & Live Auction; Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 World Championship, showcasing the world’s best bricklayers; Western Star Trucks Get Tough Challenge; Decorative Concrete Live!; Mason Contractors Association of America’s (MCAA) Fastest Trowel on the Block; and MCAA’s Masonry Skills Challenge.

World of Concrete (WOC), the annual global event dedicated to the commercial concrete and masonry construction industries, has revealed Work Truck Live! – an all-new experiential initiative designed to showcase the innovations in a contractor’s most important asset, trucks.

\n\n

Set to debut at the 17-19 January 2023 event held at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, the dedicated exhibit area in Central Hall, presented by Modern WorkTruck Solutions, will highlight innovations in the design and configuration of work trucks and innovative accessories that will help contractors increase safety and productivity.

\n\n

Work Truck Live! is aimed to bring attention to industry-leading companies that manufacture chassis and supply up-fitting accessories, as well as develop technologies with which contractors can customise their vehicles to the job at hand.

\n\n

Modern WorkTruck Solutions – a media brand of Highlands Publications, a multi-media publishing company based in Birmingham, Alabama, the US, whose editorial team focuses on the fleet-based work truck market – will contribute expertise to the interactive area and educational programme.

\n\n

Attendees will benefit from the initiative’s curated selection of manufacturers of chassis, trailers and accessory vehicle products, easily accessible to event participants in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Centre.

\n\n
