China-based company CSCEC Road & Bridge has reportedly completed more than 1,000 key projects globally and is now planning to add recycling capabilities to its existing asphalt mixing plants in order to meet new environmental guidelines and substantially reduce costs.

The company has been utilising Ammann Uniglobe asphalt mixing plants in some of its projects. For one key road expansion, a Uniglobe plant produced 7,000 t in a single day and averaged 5,000 t per day during the project. Both numbers are thought to be all-time production highs for China.

CSCEC currently owns four productive Ammann Uniglobe plants that have a great deal of life left in them. This is said to be the reason why the company decided to add recycling capabilities to the plants.

According to CSCEC, the company is now paying more attention to recycling technology as more and more public private partnership (PPP) projects are coming out. The company further highlighted that adding RAP capability is considerably less expensive than purchasing a new plant with recycling ability, plus there are environmental benefits and other cost savings.

Ammann has also been upgrading its asphalt mixing plants regularly. One of the improvements includes the addition of an RAH drum that heats the RAP before depositing it in the mixer.

RAP needs a separate RAH drum because it must be gently preheated, said Ammann, in order to prevent its bitumen from being damaged due to overheating. The bitumen is valuable and preserving it would be a cost saver.

After preheating, the RAP is deposited in the mixer, where it is blended with the hot virgin aggregate. The result is a quality mix with a high percentage of recyclables.

The new Ammann ART 280 hydrostatic tyred roller can be used on both asphalt and soil. It is suitable for a wide range of applications such as motorways, railways, airfields, industrial zones and residential areas.

The roller is powered by the latest US EPA Tier 4f/EU Stage 4 engine from Deutz with EGR, DOC and SCR technology; while in less regulated countries, it features a US EPA Tier 3/EU Stage 3A Deutz engine with EGR and muffler.

Ammann’s modular, easy-load ballasting system enables the machine weight to be adjusted from 9 t to 28 t in a single hour with the help of only a forklift. This translates into a load-per-tyre adjustment from 1.125 kg to 3.500 kg.

The ease and weight of the ballast adjustment are unique to the market, said Ammann. The system enables use of varied ballasting materials including water, steel, concrete and sand. The air-on-the-run system allows easy control of tyre pressure from the cab. The ballast adjustment and air-on-the-run system make it easy for the operator to control machine weight and tyre pressure, the two main tyred roller compaction factors.

Front isostatic axles with oscillation deliver higher stability and increased surface coverage and quality. Front tyres are connected with an isostatic system that enables movement of +/- 50 mm. The front-axle configuration combines with +/- 3° oscillation for optimal tyre contact in difficult terrain.

The new cabin is spacious with low sound levels and a 170˚ rotating seat for all-day operator comfort. A multifunctional display provides intuitive control, ensuring even less experienced operators are successful. The cab offers optimal sight lines and visibility.

\r\n

Moreover, the Ammann ART 280 provides simple access during maintenance and service of components. Access is gained from the ground, making maintenance fast and easy and thus reducing downtime. A variety of options also help the machine closely match the needs of individual contractors.
