Megawide Construction Corporation, through its Precast and Construction Solutions (PCS) business unit, and the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) have launched what is described as the Philippines’ first structured training programme for precast concrete constructors.

“What we are witnessing here is the result of a shared vision – that true excellence in any industry begins not on the production floor, but in the way we develop and invest in our people,” said Christopher Zimmer, executive director of GPCCI.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) outlining their collaboration to develop, implement and quality-assure a comprehensive vocational education programme, which will integrate key elements of the German dual training system. Adapted to the Philippine context, the programme aims to enhance industry-relevant skills and address the persistent skills mismatch in the sector, GPCCI said in its announcement.

According to GPCCI, this pilot training programme is designed for both new entrants to the industry and existing workers of Megawide seeking to upskill. Trainees will follow a structured dual-training approach that combines classroom-based instruction, hands-on workshop training and enterprise-based practical experience within Megawide’s facilities.

“Germany has proven over decades that the dual training system works,” said Markus Hennig, executive vice president of Megawide and head of PCS. “Companies that invest in it do not just train workers; they build careers, retain talent and raise their own standards in the process. We want Megawide to be that kind of company here in the Philippines.”

This partnership reflects both organisations’ shared commitment to industry-led, skills-based workforce development, with the ambition of establishing the German dual training system as a replicable model for workforce development across the Philippine construction industry and beyond.
