A two-storey tall off-form concrete wall fronting the street might seem austere and uninviting, yet the sheer scale and proportion of it turns ME House into an intriguing, momentary delight when people drive or walk by the site, especially when movements of trees are observed on the wall as shadows.

Jury Citation:

The jury commends the architects’ bold departure: having a house that turns completely inwards to a sanctuary where occupants communicate via an open, private courtyard. The duality of openness and closeness is manifested through a refined play of materiality and textures; contrasting the softness of trellis with the solidity of concrete, varying dialogues between inside and outside through layers of fenestration and glass. For its controlled execution of construction, a merit award is accorded.
