Singapore – Mr. Lee Ang Seng, Managing Director of Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner (S.E. Asia) Pte Ltd, has been elected as the new and eight president of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC). Mr Lee will lead the SGBC Board for the 2023-2025 term to ramp up the built environment decarbonisation efforts in support of Singapore’s green  building and climate mitigation aspirations.

Taking over the reins from Ar. Tang Kok Thye, the seventh President of SGBC, Mr. Lee Ang Seng is a veteran Green Mark Accredited Professional (GMAP) with an impressive repertoire of iconic Singapore green building projects delivered with Beca under his belt, such as the Republic Polytechnic campus, PARKROYAL COLLECTION @ Pickering, Changi Airport Terminal 4, Universal Studios Singapore and Marina One.

Mr. Lee provides leadership and strategic directions for the Beca business in Singapore and the emerging market in Southeast Asia as a member of the Beca Group Executive Leadership Team and the business executive team for the ASEAN region. Through his passion and leadership in developing people, he has led Beca Singapore to be the only private sector winner of the People Excellence Award in 2018, the highest Business Excellence accolade awarded to organisations who have demonstrated highest standard of people management and development practices.

Ar. Tang Kok Thye (representing ADDP Architects LLP) will assume the role of Immediate Past President for the new term, having served as SGBC President from 2021-2023. Under his leadership, SGBC managed to navigate the challenging waters of an industry emerging from the worst of the global pandemic and successfully restarted many of its signature in-person events in 2022, such as two editions of the SGBC Leadership Conversations thought leadership forum, the SGBC Gala Dinner 2022 and SGBC Pavilion @ BEX Asia 2022.

Elected by SGBC Members, the new SGBC Board reflects the diverse nature of the Council and is representative of the built environment value chain. The Board comprises senior leaders from Singapore’s leading property developers, professional building consulting firms, contractors, institutional bodies, the academia and government agencies.

On his new role, Mr. Lee said, “I am deeply honoured to take on the role as President of the Singapore Green Building Council and build on the good work of the past seven Presidents who have led the Council to its present success. With the slew of national sustainability efforts announced over the past couple of years, there is now unprecedented attention and scrutiny on sustainability efforts. SGBC is poised to thoroughly support our Members and built environment organisations at every stage of their decarbonisation voyages.”

Complementing its robust suite of established programmes and initiatives to advance built environment sustainability, SGBC is organising the return of the International Green Building Conference (IGBC) on 26-27 June 2023 at the Raffles City Convention Centre. The IGBC event platform holds immense significance as it was first launched in 2009 along with the founding of SGBC as an organisation built on public-private partnership to advance the green building agenda in Singapore. Since then, IGBC has served not only as an important platform to rally the local built environment industry on sustainability concerns, but has also showcased Singapore’s efforts and green building achievements to the global industry.

SGBC has also launched the Green Mark Associate foundation-level accreditation for new industry entrants and/or non-technical built environment related professionals seeking to pursue a career in the greening of the built environment or demonstrate competency in the fundamentals of Singapore green building. The accreditation demonstrates a working knowledge of green building fundamentals, key regulations as well as trends and developments, which can help open doors to a growing pool of job opportunities available in built environment sustainability.
