Local startup, gush paint, announced today that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Surbana Jurong (SJ), witnessed by the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), the Singapore Economic Development BoardEDB, Enterprise Singapore, and the National Research Foundation. Under the MOU, gush will be supplying cair interior paint for use in the upcoming SJ-NTU developed Cryo-Polygen pilot testbed, an upcoming integrated urban power generation system that taps on the energy generated by the regasification of Liquified Natural Gas without letting it go to waste. The testbed is slated for completion on NTU’s campus by 2022.

The application of cair interior paint, the world’s first air-purifying paint, will help to break down indoor pollutants present in the testbed spaces and regulate environment factors, helping to alleviate temperature flux-related implications. Ryan Lim, Co-Founder and CEO of gush, said, “We’re glad to have been invited to be a part of this partnership and to contribute to the transition towards sustainable ways of living in Singapore.”

gush's cair interior paint, has had a proven track record of being able to prevent moulding issues, particularly due to its breathable, porous nature that constantly keeps the painted surface dry, in turn preventing mould growth in places where there could be a high flux in temperature.

The Cryo-Polygen project is one of several innovations being developed under the SJ-NTU Corporate Laboratory. Jointly launched in 2018 by Surbana Jurong and NTU, and supported by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), it aims to develop next-generation sustainable solutions to tackle industrial and complex urban challenges.

Through Enterprise Singapore’s introduction and facilitation, Surbana Jurong has secured partnerships with five local companies who have solutions best suited for this demonstrator. When completed and available commercially, Cryo-Polygen is able to be deployed to power cold storage warehouses as well as cool indoor environments. It is expected to play a part in helping Singapore to reach its national target of a 36% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030.
